Life has unexpected challenges. and Those difficult times and how we manage them can negatively impact a child’s emotional wellbeing. Play therapist and Registered Counsellor, Brenda Leemans, strives to provide assistance and support for affected families at the Chameleon Play Therapy. Her willingness to go the extra mile for her patients has made her a sought-after resource for assisting families through trying times.
At Chameleon Play Therapy we believe that kids are innately honest and never have hidden agendas. Kids express their emotions through playing and at times this assists them to say something they can’t verbalize or articulate properly. We assist them move from a place where they’re acting out and getting negative feedback to place where they are just being their true and amazing selves.
There in lies our reward.
Sometimes a lot of the issues can be addressed and worked on through play with a witness. Someone who is paying full attention and looking for those hidden messages that often struggle to come out. The gravity and the importance of becoming an advocate for children is not lost on us hence we have become the child’s voice when it comes to advising the parents.
“Most play therapists have a long-term approach to treatment. I don’t think it’s appropriate. I prefer to set short terms goals and solve any issues that need to be addressed quickly. This way the process is empowering and gives the child the tools to continue growing. They shouldn’t be reliant on therapy to live their lives.”
