Recently we contributed to an article written by Warren Robertson for Leisurely, a South African lifestyle magazine. Our resident play therapist and Registered Counsellor, Brenda Leemans, chatted with Warren to discuss when to send a toddler to school.

Brenda added insight into the most important things to remember when facing this question. This is a question that has stressed out oodles of parents over the years. We hope that this article will offer you some insight. You can read the original article here and hopefully, it will help put your mind at ease.

Thank you, Warren!

Introducing Kids Craft Therapy

Are you looking for an extramural that adds value to your child and is a rewarding and fun activity at the same time?

Do you want your child to be equipped with the necessary emotional and developmental tools to thrive in this fast paced and ever-changing world?

Do you want to ensure your child is a happy and confident individual?

Does your child need to develop their social or coping skills?

Kids Craft Therapy may be just the right thing for your child. The good thing is you’re halfway there already as you are aware of your child’s needs.

What is Kids Craft Therapy?

Kids Craft Therapy is a fun arts and craft activity for preschoolers where the child is supported by the experience and skills of a play therapist as the facilitator.

Chameleon’s founder and resident play therapist, Brenda Leemans, has developed an arts and crafts therapy programme that is based on play therapy techniques.

This is a project based programme where the focus is on the process, and not the outcome.

What is the purpose?

This programme has been developed with longterm benefits in mind. Our Kids Craft Therapy programme equips children with the necessary toolkit to be a healthy, happy, and confident individual. These fundamental tools form a solid and structured foundation for their social and emotional development throughout their lives. The goal is to provide them with a toolkit that they can draw from for the rest of their lives

How does it work?

Our sessions are 30 minutes long and your child works on a new craft project where the focus is on the process, not the outcome. Each session has a unique theme and we use fun activities like stories, art, crafts, and games to work through the lesson.

Who is it for?

Kids Craft Therapy is for pre-schoolers and young children between the ages of 3 and 6.

What are the benefits?

The Kids Craft Therapy programme has been specially developed by a play therapist and uses play therapy techniques to ensure maximum benefit to your child. Some of these benefits include:

  • Improves social skills
  • Coping skills
  • Boost self-esteem
  • Self-confidence
  • Emotional vocabulary
  • Empathy
  • Self-expression
  • Nurturing creativity
  • Meaningful social interactions
  • Fostering independence
  • Encouraging teamwork and co-operation

Why should I sign up?

You’d be doing your child a great service by instilling the personal qualities that they will continuously draw from as adults. We encourage children to develop skills and traits like empathy, accountability, kindness, self-confidence, and problem solving. All while imparting the very necessary ability to understand their own feelings and express them constructively.
